Jeremy Lin agrees to four-year, $28.9 million offer sheet to leave NY Knicks and join Houston Rockets

Linsanity is apparently worth $ 29 million, and now the Knicks have to decide if Jeremy Lin worth it.

Lin agreed on Thursday to sign a four-year, $ 28.9 million offer sheet with the Houston Rockets, hours after Jason Kidd, 39, rejected a deal with the Dallas Mavericks and agreed to pass last years of his career Hall of Fame as a Knick.
LAWRENCE: In the garden, IS IN THE OLD WITH

A Kidd / Lin jointly point guard would be an update and the Knicks have the power to make it happen. Because Lin is a restricted free agent, the Knicks have the option to match the offer from the Rockets (who can not sign the offer sheet until Wednesday, and the Knicks have three days to match). The assault is only the agreement is backloaded and third year of the contract that the Knicks would have to pay a luxury tax. The offer sheet has Lin for $ 5 million the first year, followed by $ 5.2 million, $ 9.3 million and $ 9.3 million.

By all indications, the Knicks intend to match the offer. The Rockets do not think Lin 23-year-old will join them in Houston next season.

The most important decision for Mike Woodson will be to determine if the child or the elderly is the starter.

Kidd in no way makes the Knicks younger, but their presence on the court and in the locker room will make them smarter and better in the end.

After watching Steve Nash, the main objective of free agency, join the Lakers, the Knicks convinced Kidd to come to the Garden, where you can also serve as mentor to Lin. It was like a surprising move and Kidd almost had agreed a contract extension with the Dallas Mavericks. In the space of three days, the Mavericks lost to Deron Williams, Nash and Kidd.

An agreement to that Kidd will be announced until Wednesday and there is a strong possibility that the Knicks acquired through a sign-and-trade. Kidd turned down a three-year, $ 9 million contract Dallas.

The Knicks could also use their "mini mid-level exception" to sign Kidd, they would pay $ 9.7 million over three years. Kidd will turn 40 in March.

The Knicks had their eyes on the first point guard, Raymond Felton, after Nash accepted a sign-and-trade with the Lakers on Wednesday, but immediately changed his approach to Kidd after he rejected the chance to return to Dallas, where he won an NBA title two years ago.

Kidd is not nearly the player he was when he helped the Nets to two straight NBA Finals in 2002 and '03, but it can be a valuable role player capable of playing 20 to 25 minutes.

It will also give the Knicks much needed leadership on the court. The Knicks have a losing record with Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire playing together and the hope is that an owner with experience as Kidd is a way for the duo of qualification to succeed.

Felton still be an option, but it is unlikely that the Knicks would be a game for him if he returns Lin. Felton played well in his first tour with the Knicks before being traded to Denver in the deal Anthony. Felton spent
last season with Portland. Toney Douglas is the only Knicks guard spot under contract.

The Knicks are hoping to re-sign free agent JR Smith, who may well start at shooting guard or come off the bench. Incumbent guard Landry Fields signed a three-year, $ 19 million offer sheet with the Toronto Raptors. The Knicks are not expected to accompany it.

Iman Shumpert, who can play shooting guard or small forward, is at least until January after major knee surgery in May. Kidd also can play both guard.

The Knicks have expressed interest in free agent guard OJ Mayo, but can only be purchased through a sign-and-trade with Memphis.
